Traditional Hummus

 

Traditional Hummus


Preparation time:
 10 minutes

 

Makes 4-6 servings


 

Ingredients:

1 jar of chickpeas (600g) rinsed and drained (reserve a few chickpeas for the final garnish)

1/3 cup wholegrain tahini

2 tablespoons water (more if you want a more liquid constituency)

2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for the final garnish)

1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder

Juice of 1 ½ to 2 lemons (keeping the fibre)

1 teaspoon cumin powder

¼ teaspoon sea salt

 

 

Garnish with olive oil, sumac or paprika and chickpeas

Delicious served with wholegrain pitta bread or any other wholegrain bread

 

Preparation:

1.      Blend together all the ingredients for 1-2 minutes at a slow to medium speed, scraping down the sides of the blender every few seconds if necessary.

2.      Check the constituency and see if you need to add any more water.

3.      Taste and see if you need to add in any more salt, garlic powder, lemon juice or cumin powder.

4.      Garnish with olive oil, sumac or paprika and some chickpeas and serve with some wholegrain bread or pitta bread.

Where does your protein come from?

It comes from a combination of the chickpeas which are high in protein and the wholegrain bread. The combination of the two gives you a good amount of each of the nine essential amino acids necessary in the human diet.
